7 hospitals in NY accused of $50M Medicaid fraud

ALBANY, N.Y. – Four hospitals in New York state paid kickbacks to get more patients into their drug treatment programs, which billed Medicaid for services that weren't standard or necessary and lacked state certification, lawsuits allege.

Another hospital paid people to search homeless shelters and other places for patients to enter a three-day stay in detox in exchange for cigarettes, beer, food, and other items, according to the lawsuit brought by state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and U.S. Attorney Benton Campbell.

The lawsuits allege those five hospitals and two others fraudulently billed Medicaid for more than $50 million in more than 14,000 different claims.  Read full article »

--Let's not waste time bickering over what's necessary and what's fair. Lots of people are having financial troubles, but with a wave of Congress' magic wand, we can have utopia on earth. I propose that every man, woman and child in the country get a check for $1,000,000 from Uncle Sam. Think of the debts that would be wiped out, the savings and investments it would lead to, and how much it would boost spending, thus causing an economic boom!

If there was a national referendum for such a plan, what do you suppose the vote would be? I'm guessing it would be about 80% in favor and 20% against. And of the minority that would instinctively know that such a "solution" couldn't possibly work, how many could actually explain WHY it wouldn't work? Would it even be as many as one in a hundred?  Read full article »

In the last election, unions spent $450 million to elect candidates who favor their agenda. They have succeeded beyond the dreams of avarice. The federal government is now virtually the empire of Big Labor.

Especially gleeful are the teachers' unions, who helped elect a president explicitly and vociferously opposed to vouchers. Even as America's students have dropped to their lowest level on standardized tests compared to students internationally, and even as drop-out rates soar past the 50 percent mark in most of the largest urban school districts, President-elect Barack Obama has shown contempt for school choice-even as he exercised school choice in enrolling his own children in the most expensive and exclusive private prep school in Washington, D.C.  Read full article »

I recently attended the 3rd North American Secessionist Convention held in Manchester , New Hampshire .

While the topic of secession is not uncommon to readers of this daily journal, the idea of secession is unique and unappealing to most Americans. The term often brings forth images of the Civil War, slavery, the assassination of a President and a defeated Confederacy. Americans seem blissfully unaware that the Declaration of Independence was an act of secession from Great Britain and that the history of nation-states throughout the world is replete with sections breaking away from larger political bodies to go their own separate way, the latest being the attempt of South Ossetia to leave the nation of Georgia.  Read full article »

Israel is using U.S. munitions against the Palestinians. From the Jerusalem Post:

"The Israel Air Force used a new bunker-buster missile that it received recently from the United States in strikes against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, The Jerusalem Post learned on Sunday.

The missile, called GBU-39, was developed in recent years by the US as a small-diameter bomb for low-cost, high-precision and low collateral damage strikes."

The claim that Israel is employing the bomb because it minimizes “collateral damage” is sadistically absurd, to say the least — the Gaza Strip is incontestably the most populated tract of land on earth and any munition, even a “smart” one, will undoubtedly cause “collateral damage.” The 1.3 million Palestinians living on the Gaza Strip are little more than fish in a barrel due to the fact Israel controls Gaza’s airspace, coast and most of its borders.  Read full article »

OK, so would anyone be surprised to find out the “opposition” that won (Hamas) is also funded and controlled by Israel’s intelligence services? They need Hamas to “refuse negotiations” and discredit the idea of “an independent Palestine.” They NEED "Hamas" to fire some rockets whenever it looks like a peace agreement might be reached.

Who benefits most from Hamas? (The Zionists or the Palestinians?) It’s like asking who benefited most from 9/11; the “terrorists” (and whatever cause they supposedly support) or the Neoconservatives who used the attacks as a pretext for their otherwise impossible foreign policy agenda.

Today I end my support of Israel

I'm Jewish and descendant of holocaust survivors. Moreover, I've been a Zionist all of my life. I went to a Zionist school, I was active in Zionist youth groups. I've always been a fervent supporter of Israel as a refuge for Jews around the world who seek a place to exercise their traditions and embrace their identity in peace.

I sang the Israeli anthem in the train rails of Aushwitz-Birkenau and I pledged to fight every day of my life to make sure the savage crimes that had taken place there would never happen again. Every year I pledged: Never Again. Remember and Never forget.

Well, I haven't forgotten. And so to honor that pledge, to honor the memory of my family members who died in those death camps and because "there comes a time when silence is betrayal", today I finally and publicly end my support for the state of Israel.  Read full article »

MADOFF TRAIL LEADS TO WASHINGTON

--I seldom have the urge to give a comforting pat on the back to people profiled in the Wall Street Journal. But that was my reaction when I read the 21-page whistleblower document about Madoff that was written by Harry Markopolos to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on November 7, 2005. The Journal still has the document on its web site and Markopolos provides a step by step plan for the SEC to follow to nail Madoff as a Ponzi fraudster. The letter followed a five-year effort by Markopolos, who supplied documentation and made repeated requests to the SEC to investigate Madoff.

Here’s how the SEC characterized the letter from Markopolos in a January 4, 2006 memo: “ The staff received a complaint alleging that Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, a registered broker-dealer in New York (“BLM”), operates an undisclosed multi-billion dollar investment advisory business, and that BLM operates this business as a Ponzi scheme. The complaint did not contain specific facts about the alleged Ponzi scheme…”

On June 15, 2007, Ron Paul introduced HR 2755: Federal Reserve Abolition Act. There were no co-sponsors, no further action was taken, and the legislation was referred to the House Committee on Financial Services and effectively pigeonholed and ignored.

It's a bold and needed measure to "abolish the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal reserve banks, to repeal the Federal Reserve Act, and for other purposes."  Read full article »

Princeton Physicist Calls Global Warming Science "Mistaken"

Noted energy expert and Princeton physicist Dr. Will Happer has sharply criticized global warming alarmism. Happer, author of over 200 scientific papers and a past director of energy research at the Department of Energy, called fears over global warming "mistaken".

"I have spent a long research career studying physics that is closely related to the greenhouse effect", said Happer. "Fears about man-made global warming are unwarranted and are not based on good science."

Dr. Happer views climate change as a predominately natural process. "The earth's climate is changing now, as it always has. There is no evidence that the changes differ in any qualitative way from those of the past."  Read full article »
Ohio TV station: Was Connell crash an accident or murder?

The death of Republican "IT guru" Mike Connell last Friday in a fiery plane crash has been the subject of intense speculation online about whether it might have been murder -- but very little of that speculation has made it into the national media. Now one local TV station in Connell's home state of Ohio is acknowledging that there are questions about his death.

(The man charged with writing an “acceptable” report about the incident, Lord Mersey) --wrote to Prime Minister Asquith and turned down his fee for services. He added: “I must request that henceforth I be excused from administering His Majesty’s Justice.” In later years, his only comment on the event was: “The Lusitania case was a damn dirty business.”

--Unfortunately, the Ponzi economy doesn’t stop there. A chain letter is no more viable when run by governments than when run by private citizens. However, government orchestrated pyramids have the advantage of required participation. As a result, they can maintain the illusion of viability for several generations. But the longer such schemes operate the larger will be the losses when they ultimately collapse.

The Social Security Administration runs its “trust funds” with precisely the same methods used by Madoff and Ponzi. As money is collected by from current workers, the funds are then dispersed to those already receiving benefits. None of the funds collected are actually invested, so no investment returns are ever generated. Those currently paying into the system are expected to receive their returns based on the “contribution” made by future workers. This is the classic definition of a Ponzi scheme. Dollar No Longer Haven After Fed Moves Rate Near Zero

Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) -- The world’s biggest currency-trading firms say the dollar’s appeal as a haven amid the financial crisis all but evaporated.

The U.S. currency slid to a 13-year low against the yen today and had its biggest one-day decline versus the euro after the Federal Reserve reduced its target interest rate yesterday to a range of zero to 0.25 percent, the lowest among the world’s biggest economies. A federal appeals court ruling late Monday is the cause célèbre of the American Civil Liberties Union, as another provision of the Bush administration's Patriot Act falls to the judicial system.

Until the ruling, recipients of so-called "national security letters" were legally forbidden from speaking out. Nobel Economist Says More Stable Currency Needed

More than 200 members of the Fordham community converged upon the Flom Auditorium on Oct. 14 to hear John Forbes Nash Jr., Ph.D., winner of the 1994 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, talk about solutions to the downturn in the national and global economy.

Nash told the audience that such financial crises would be less likely to occur if there was some international monetary standard, such as the gold standard or competition among worldwide currencies, to curb inflation and prevent the rise of mortgage abuses. I've said it privately; I might as well say it publicly:

Now that the international bankers have created this global crisis, the easiest way for them to get everyone to sign on to their "solution" (a global central bank and new global monetary unit) will be to introduce it as a "gold-backed" system.

This, of course, will only be temporary. Once their new gold-backed currency becomes the world's reserve currency, the gold backing will be removed and they’ll finally have what they’ve always wanted. (A single fiat global currency that they create and control.)

--In literal terms, without the authoritarian propaganda spin, here is how things work: A bunch of liars and crooks, declaring themselves to be our rightful rulers, steal tons and tons of money from the rest of us. They then spend far MORE than they steal, and declare that the difference, the debt, is OUR responsibility. And almost everyone accepts that as true. -It's not.

--There's a very easy way to fix the "federal budget deficit" and "national debt" problems: ignore them out of existence. To any who have invested in oppression and government extortion, the joke's on you. You're not quite as bad as the thieves you financed, but you're pretty darn bad. And when the day comes, which is fast approaching, when all your "investments" disappear, don't come crying to me. You deserve it, for the exact same reason that people who invested in the slave trade industry two hundred years ago deserved to lose everything. Fed Refuses to Disclose Recipients of $2 Trillion in Lending

Dec. 12 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal Reserve refused a request by Bloomberg News to disclose the recipients of more than $2 trillion of emergency loans from U.S. taxpayers and the assets the central bank is accepting as collateral.

Bloomberg filed suit Nov. 7 under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act requesting details about the terms of 11 Fed lending programs, most created during the deepest financial crisis since the Great Depression.

The Fed responded Dec. 8, saying it’s allowed to withhold internal memos as well as information about trade secrets and commercial information. The institution confirmed that a records search found 231 pages of documents pertaining to some of the requests.  Read full article »

Dedicating 20,000 troops to domestic response "would have been extraordinary to the point of unbelievable," Paul McHale, assistant defense secretary for homeland defense, said, but the realization that civilian authorities may be overwhelmed in a catastrophe prompted "a fundamental change in military culture."

--the Army Times report of September notes that the First Brigade Combat Team’s commander, Col. Roger Cloutier, said his soldiers will learn how to use the first ever package of so-called "nonlethal" weapons the Army has fielded, referring to crowd and traffic control equipment and weapons designed to subdue individuals without killing them.

"It’s a new modular package of nonlethal capabilities…they’ve been using pieces of it in Iraq, but this is the first time that these modules were consolidated and this package fielded, and because of this mission we’re undertaking we were the first to get it," Cloutier added."  Read full article »

Set for release this week, a newly updated U.S. Senate Minority Report features the dissenting voices of over 650 international scientists, many current and former UN IPCC scientists, who have now turned against the UN. The report has added about 250 scientists (and growing) in 2008 to the over 400 scientists who spoke out in 2007. Illinois Gov. Blagojevich Arrested

--A 76-page FBI affidavit said the 51-year-old Democratic governor was intercepted on court-authorized wiretaps over the last month conspiring to sell or trade the vacant Senate seat for personal benefits for himself and his wife, Patti.

Otherwise, Blagojevich considered appointing himself. The affidavit said that as late as Nov. 3, he told his deputy governor that if "they're not going to offer me anything of value I might as well take it."

"I'm going to keep this Senate option for me a real possibility, you know, and therefore I can drive a hard bargain," Blagojevich allegedly said later that day, according to the affidavit, which also quoted him as saying in a remark punctuated by profanity that the seat was "a valuable thing — you just don't give it away for nothing."  Read full article »
State Trooper infiltrates nonviolent groups and labels dozens of people "terrorists"

Not really. The woman was an undercover Maryland State Police trooper who between 2005 and 2007 infiltrated more than two dozen rallies and meetings of nonviolent groups.

Maryland officials now concede that, based on information gathered by "Lucy" and others, state police wrongly listed at least 53 Americans as terrorists in a criminal intelligence database -- and shared some information about them with half a dozen state and federal agencies, including the National Security Agency.  Read full article »

'KopBusters' reality show to ACTUALLY BUST CROOKED OFFICERS

"KopBusters rented a house in Odessa, Texas and began growing two small Christmas trees under a grow light similar to those used for growing marijuana," claims a release from NeverGetBusted.com "When faced with a suspected marijuana grow, the police usually use illegal FLIR cameras and/or lie on the search warrant affidavit claiming they have probable cause to raid the house. Instead of conducting a proper investigation which usually leads to no probable cause, the Kops lie on the affidavit claiming a confidential informant saw the plants and/or the police could smell marijuana coming from the suspected house."

FBI agents stage sting to snare corrupt cops

CHICAGO – Duffel bags stuffed with cocaine were delivered by plane to an out-of-the-way suburban airport while two sheriff's officers provided security. A police officer stood by to guard the cash and keep out the riffraff at a poker game where $100,000 changed hands. And a drug dealer was told squad cars marked "sheriff" and "sheriff's police" might be available on a "freelance" basis to provide protection for his deliveries.

Such tales of law enforcement gone awry emerged in court papers Tuesday as federal prosecutors unveiled a series of elaborate sting operations aimed at officers who hired out to ride shotgun for drug deals and other criminal activities.

Fifteen officers and two other men who had pretended to be law enforcement officers were charged with conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine or heroin or both.  Read full article »
The Federal government hates competition. You've got to admit it's a good racket. Especially the part where they can actually fly the drugs in, distribute the drugs, protect the "dealers" and always have the fallback excuse of being "deep undercover." (In the RARE event that something they can't control gets in the way.)

CNN recently reported that "the Justice Department is re-examining its investigation into the 1995 death of a federal prisoner that the victim’s family alleges was murder at the hands of the government."

The victim was Kenneth Michael Trentadue.

At 7 AM on August 21, 1995, officials from the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s office arrived at the new Oklahoma City Federal Transfer Center for the body of a man recently picked up for parole violation who allegedly was a suicide by hanging. The astonished state officials saw a body with scalp split to the skull in three places, throat slashed, and a body completely covered in blood, bruises and burns.

As law requires, the officials asked to see the cell in which the alleged suicide occurred. Federal officials pulled rank and refused on the grounds that a federal investigation was underway. A federal investigation was not underway.  Read full article »

Whether or not the "next attack" actually comes from Pakistan, Afghanistan, or FalseFlagistan is, of course, totally irrelevant. Whatever the Obama admin says will be taken as gospel and former opponents of unilateral acts of US aggression will fall ominously silent. (Not all of them - some will certainly stand in loud / vocal support.) -A TINY minority will remain intellectually consistent.

It was just a few months ago. Do we still care about these things? We should. These issues are now more dangerous than ever, because . . .When our attention is diverted elsewhere, the sins of the past become entrenched.

The media and the politicians have set a new agenda -- the economy....

Pentagon To Deploy 20,000 Troops On US Soil

The Pentagon's plan calls for three rapid-reaction forces to be ready for emergency response by September 2011. The first 4,700-person unit, built around an active-duty combat brigade based at Fort Stewart, Ga., was available as of Oct. 1, said Gen. Victor E. ...A good prosecutor picks out the best evidence to make his / her case. The real "case" to be made here (in my opinion) is that our fractional reserve banking system is a predatory and dangerous system. It benefits the few at the expense of the many and it is "The Fed" (sitting at the top of the banking system) that directs everything. All the evidence needed to make this case is readily available.

...apologists can ALWAYS deny the nefarious "intent / motive" of those running the Fed...but in the end, it isn't the claimed intent / motive that matters; it's the results.

The Fed Chairman might really believe in the system and he might pull all the levers and push all the buttons he thinks he's supposed to...or, he might know EXACTLY what he is doing; he might know exactly who it will hurt and who it will benefit. In the end, that isn't the main issue. What's most important is that he not have the power, as a believer or conspirator, to do it.  Read full article »
Texas DA reveals evidence against Cheney

--Guerra showed us the Vice President's financial disclosure from last year and it shows he owned shares in the Vanguard Group. Guerra estimates Cheney has $85 million invested in Vanguard and in turn, into the prison companies.
